Hidden within the vast Royal Belum–Temenggor rainforest, this fishing expedition takes anglers into one of the most remote and spectacular freshwater environments in Peninsular Malaysia.
The Belum-Temenggor forest complex is estimated to be more than 130 million years old, making it one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. Surrounded by towering jungle, misty hills, and endless bays of flooded forest, Temenggor Lake offers a truly wild setting for anglers chasing one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting freshwater predators — the giant snakehead (toman).
Unlike typical lake fishing trips, fishing in Temenggor often involves searching for active toman along jungle shorelines, submerged timber, and isolated coves where these predators patrol for prey.
Few fishing experiences compare to the moment when a toman explodes on a surface lure — a sudden, violent strike followed by a powerful run back toward the structure.
Beyond the fishing itself, the experience of being deep in Royal Belum is something special. Anglers often encounter hornbills flying overhead, distant gibbon calls echoing through the forest, and occasionally even wild elephants roaming along the lake’s edge.

LOCATION
The fishing grounds are located within Temenggor Lake, bordering Royal Belum State Park in northern Perak. Due to the distance and remote location, most anglers choose the multi-day expedition trip to fully experience fishing in this region.
