KELAU SNAKEHEAD FISHING TRIP

Kelau Dam is a drinking water reservoir that plays an important role in supplying clean water to Selangor. Despite its primary function, the reservoir has gained a strong reputation among anglers as one of the well-known locations for giant snakehead (toman) fishing.

Toman is a relatively new species introduced into Kelau Dam, and it has adapted well to the reservoir’s environment. The presence of this powerful predator has quickly attracted attention from freshwater anglers due to its aggressive behavior and explosive strikes, especially when feeding near the surface.

The reservoir is located approximately 100 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, making it accessible within about one hour’s drive. This convenient distance allows anglers to enjoy a productive day trip without the need for long travel or overnight stays.

While fishing activities are popular, it is important to remember that Empangan Kelau is primarily a water supply reservoir. Responsible and ethical fishing practices, including proper fish handling and catch-and-release, are encouraged to help preserve both the fish population and the water quality.

Empangan Kelau offers a unique balance between conservation and sport fishing, making it an appealing destination for anglers seeking toman in a controlled and scenic freshwater environment.
